Tony Packo’s Cafe
Remember how much Jamie Farr’s M*A*S*H
character, Klinger, loved the Hungarian hot dogs
at Packo’s? I was in Toledo with my friend
Guntis yesterday and he decided to take me to
“Klinger’s favorite restaurant.”
Turns out it’s not only Klinger’s favorite restaurant
but everyone else’s in the world too. It was 4 PM on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. Packo’s has quite a history going back to 1932. Can you image the guts it took to open a restaurant during the Depression??? Packo’s has had some very distinguished visitors too. Burt Reynolds started the tradition of autographing Packo’s hot dog buns. Everywhere you look there are framed autographed hot dog buns from US Presidents to famous actors to local politicians. It was quite interesting. I ordered Chicken Paprikas and Guntis ordered stuffed cabbage. Both meals were very tasty. Even though Packo’s famous pickles were quite good, I don’t think I’d make a special trip to Toledo to go back .
